(AP) — An unidentified Israeli official has confirmed that private discussions between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu included a strong request from the President that the upcoming Passover holiday not include the familiar refrain of “next year in Jerusalem”, citing the passage as provocative and unhelpful for future peace talks.

The Administration suggested replacing it with “next year in peace” or “next year in Israel”, but leaving the final wording up to both the Israelis and Palestinians.

Netanyahu is said to have balked at the request, indicating that the refrain dates back well before the UN Partition of 1947.  The Prime Minister reportedly attempted to diffuse the situation by noting that the declaration lacks any political significance, adding that most people living outside of Israel just “say the words without having a real desire to live anywhere in Jerusalem.” He further explained that, “at most, they would like to come for the Passover holiday, but only staying at one of the hotels located in western part of the city.”

  1. As further proof of his argument, PM Netanyahu pointed out that Satmar, the Eideh Charedis and Neturei Karta are capable of burning an Israeli flag in the daytime along with their chometz and then sitting down to say "Next Year in a Jerusalem without Zionists"

The PM also denied reports of any strain in the US-Israel relationship saying he preferred being served year-old matzos in the White House instead of the usual partially thawed food package at a state dinner. He said that was more mehudar according to his son, the bible contest winner. However his political enemies claim he was nibbling on snacks without a hechsher (but hid it when Ramm Emanuel and David Axlerod droped by.,

Bibi also rejected the allegation that VP Joe Biden was 1.5 hours late to his state dinner in Israel as a way of showing his displeasure with the Israeli government. He claimed that "Joe has just gone from overtalking like a Jew to being mehudar on Jewish time like a chosid dealing with the zman for shachris."

Behind the scenes there are rumors that the Israeli government is collecting all hagaddahs with green lines around the closing line and replacing them with expanded 1600 page edition with larger margins.
